Introduction
Transtel nm_Fusion media monitoring and archive system is a complete solution that automates the capturing of “live” audio and video broadcasts (option), encoding, streaming, browsing, captioning and archiving. Apart from handling audio and video file formats the system can handle the traditional news agency formats such as text, photographs and graphics.
All broadcasts (radio and television etc.) received and/or transmitted by the nm_Fusion system can be automatically posted to the database for permanent storage. Users can interrogate this data at any time by creating SQL queries based on different parameters (source, headline, date, time, category code, product code, free text etc.). The SQL queries support Arabic and Latin based languages.
Database Structure
The database structure is based on the IPTC (International Press
Telecommunications Council) standard such that the component parts of a message will have individual fields within a record. This system will enable fast searches and profile selection. In the case of non IPTC messages a headline element is constructed. nm_Fusion utilises the industry standard Microsoft SQL Server 2000 RDBMS with the Microsoft Full-Text indexing! search technology.
Types of Media Input to nmfusionlM System
Radio broadcasts monitored via Radio Receivers or any analogue audio source (option extra)
Television broadcasts monitored via satellite receivers or any composite video (RGB) source (optional extra)
Arabic/Latin text news services being received and transmitted via standard serial COM ports from international, regional and national news agencies.
Arabic/Latin text input/outputs from LAN/WAN folders and Electronic mail (Internet) are also supported.
Fax Files received and transmitted by the NewsManager system.
Photographs with Arabic/Latin text captions received from international news agencies e.g. Reuters, AFP, AP in JPEG file format. Photographs can also be received via Electronic mail (Internet) or via standard dial-up modems using the Z-Modem file transfer protocol.
Photographs from digital cameras or film scanners can also be archived once the necessary texl caption has been inserted.
Graphics with Arabic/Latin text received from international news agencies e.g. Reuters, AFP, AP in EPS or PDF file formats. Graphics can also be received via electronic mail (Internet) or via standard dial-up modems using Z-Modem ifie transfer protocol.
Audio and Video files in MPEG, Avi etc. type file formats. Virtually any file format is supported provided the client has an application to load and run the media file type.
Hard copy archives to be entered in to the database i.e. scanner and O.C.R inputs.
nm_fusion FrontDesk Application
nm_fusion FrontDesk application software has been developed for user workstations to allow them to easily create SQL queries to interrogate the database. These queries can be based on all relevant parameters (headline, story/caption, keyword, file extension, priority, pre-header, USN, User i.d) using OR AND type I3oolean parameters. The user can also specify one or more sources, text or media or both types, hence extensive data filtering capability is made available to the users. For advanced users provision is made to enter SQL queries directly.
The user can also specify a start and end date range or choose to ignore the date/time settings whereby the system will search the entire database. The results can be displayed in Ascending or Descending date order. Individual queries can be configured to appear in grid or headline type display in small, normal or large display modes.
Multimedia Display
Once a query has been generated and results have been received back from the SQL server, the user is able to perform various functions depending on the media type. Functions available for Arabic/Latin text can be edit, copy, paste, print, export etc. on the displayed results. The results can be viewed in grid format or list format in small, normal and large views. An abstract window can be used for browsing through the results. Audio and Video files can be played using an associated software application e.g. MS Windows media player, Real Player.
Arabic/Latin Text Display
SQL Query names and keywords can be entered in Arabic or Latin languages e.g. English, French, German, Spanish etc. The user can select a grid type or headline type display to view the search results. An abstract window feature is available for quick browsing or by double clicking the headline, the user can load the story in an editor window.
Arabic and Latin language based news from international, regional and national agencies received by the ComManagertm system can he archived and retrieved by users e.g. Reuters, AFP, AP, dpa, SPA, MENA, KUNA, SANA, QNA, GNA, WAM, Petra, ONA, SABA, MAP etc.
